Direct observation of morphorogy during crystallization under shear flow

Crystallization process of polybutene-1 under low shear flow was observed by an optical microscope by
using a device newly developed by our group. The crystallization was observed at 102~108 °C under shear rates of up to 0.1s-1. Whirlpool shape of spherulites, having double layers, were unexpectedly discovered under slow uniform shear rates. These double layer whirlpool spherulites in the shear plane were growing by rotating as a function of time under shear.
