The instrument V16 at the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB) is a time-of-flight instrument, using neutrons with wavelengths between 0.1 nm < λ <2 nm. Using a chopper setup of three choppers at rotation speeds up to 3000 rpm and variable phase shifts in between the different choppers, wavelength bands with variable width and wavelengths can be chosen. In combination with the continuously adjustable sample detector distance between 1.7 m and 11.2 m, a q-range of 0.03 nm-1< q < 6.0 nm-1 can be reached with adjustable Δq/q (between 4% <Δq/q < 20%). A 20-position sample holder can be used for standard cuvettes. The temperature can be adjusted between -50°C and 120 °C with an accuracy of 0.05°C at room temperature. A temperature stability of 5 mK can be reached with the “Casimir cell” built up by the HZB sample environment group and can be used as well for experiments. Furthermore a Rheo-SANS setup using the MCR 301 rheometer from Anton Paar with quartz glass Searle geometry can be mounted, allowing measurements in the radial and tangential direction.
